We are turning on the “Ribbons of Love” this year in Astoria on April 2nd for Autism Awareness Month
For the past 2 years, we have participated in Autism Speaks’ Global Light It Up Blue campaign whereby thousands of iconic landmarks and buildings, join the hundreds of thousands of homes and communities around the world to light up blue on April 2nd - World Autism Awareness Day, in an effort to increase understanding and acceptance of individuals living with ASD.
In celebration of Autism Awareness Month, the Carnival of Love Foundation contributed to the global movement by installing 5 Ribbons of Love, custom-made puzzle-piece skylines on 30th Avenue in Astoria, NY, that twinkled blue from April 1-30th, 2017; each light was turned on by a special needs family, some of which are pictured below.
It was a memorable moment for them, and a historic moment for our community!
In addition, through our efforts, Greece also participated in the campaign for the first time in 2016, and again in 2017, by lighting the “Arc of Hadrian” blue, a famous monument at the foot of the Acropolis in Athens, Greece.
We will be turning on some of these lights again this year in support of this celebration
