2011 Carnival

The Carnival of Love Foundation is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization which has raised over $50,000 for a wide array of children’s charities since our inception in 2008. We strive to promote the health and wellbeing of underprivileged children with a special focus on Greek-American children. Over the last 3 years, our annual fundraisers have experienced exponential growth, both increasing awareness about various causes and multiplying outreach efforts. The amazing support and overwhelming positive response by our Greek-American community is truly inspiring and has propelled us forward.

This year, our 4th Annual Carnival of Love Fundraiser will take place on Fri April 29th @ Central Lounge in Astoria, in celebration of Autism Awareness Month. Through this event, we intend to create a Special Education Sunday School program at our local parish in Astoria, NY for children with autism with a specialized teacher, art and music therapists and aides as necessary. In addition, we will also donate iPads to certain non-profit organizations in the NY metro area which have educational programs in place for these children. It is quite amazing to see how the iPads, (through specially designed apps) have literally transformed the way these children communicate. For more in-depth information on these revolutionary apps, please visit: www.appsforautism.com

Our inspiration for this year’s event, the Autism cause and the Special Education Sunday School program, is an extraordinary woman named Melanie Donus who founded The St. Nicholas Autism Foundation, www.stnickfoundation.org, and pioneered this program named “St. Paul’s Pioneers” with the assistance of Rev. Luke Melackrinos at St. Paul’s Greek-Orthodox Cathedral in Hempstead, NY. The Carnival of Love Foundation is raising awareness and funds to create and fund the same program for the 1st year in Astoria, NY. After we announced the program, we receiving quite a bit of public interest so we decided to take our efforts to the next level and are looking to create this program on a larger scale by offering the lesson plans and templates to multiple Greek-American schools to see if they would like to adopt the program themselves. The details are still in the works… however, these are our plans so far.

JOIN LOVEPRINT

In addition, we have started a “Loveprint Movement” @joinloveprint on Twitter. What is a “loveprint” you ask??!! Well we, at The Carnival of Love Foundation, coined the word “loveprint”, to signify that love is a unique as ones fingerprint; it comes in many colors, shapes and sizes, and despite various differences, it’s the one thing that truly unites us all. We named our campaign: “What’s the shape of your love?” asking people to pause and reflect on how much of their lives is actually dedicated to sharing light, love and hope to others and to ponder the question, “What imprint do you plan to leave on this world?” … for more info, click the “About” tab or check out: www.loveprint.org.
